Forward Antonae Roberson led five Blazers in double figures with 16 points as UAB (2-3) defeated Bradley (2-1) 82-50 Tuesday evening at Bartow Arena.
Roberson scored 14 of his season-high 16 in the first half as the Blazers jumped out to a 15-2 lead and steadily built their lead to 19 points on two occasions, the last at 47-28 with 1:11 remaining in the half. The Blazers shot a blistering 67 percent from the field in the first half and led 47-30 at the break.
Roberson was joined in double figures by Myron Ransom with 14 points, Eric Batchelorand Mo Finley with 12 each, and Will Campbell with 11. Ransom and Finley led the Blazers with seven rebounds each.
Guard Phillip Gilbert led Bradley with 19 points, followed by Marcello Robinson with 11.
UAB continued its dominance in the second half, never leading by less than 18 points
After three straight tough losses that came by a combined eight points, the big win and 56 percent field goal percentage came as a welcome tonic to Coach Murry Bartow.
"The last two games we have shot very poorly -- tonight we got better shots," said Bartow after the game.
" We shot 56 percent. We have been kind of living and dying on the perimeter, and tonight we had a lot more inside shots. Myron (Ransom) with eight shots, Campbell with eight, Roberson with nine -- a lot more shots inside, which leads to a higher percentage. Having a quick start was real important for us tonight, coming off a three-game losing streak."
Bartow went with a different starting lineup for the Bradley game, inserting Roberson and Batchelor at the forward positions.
"I wanted to shake things up a little bit," he said. "We had gotten off to some really bad starts in our last three games. We have 10 healthy bodies and we need all of them performing well."
UAB returns to action Saturday at Murray State (7:00 pm CST).
