BIRMINGHAM - Eric Batchelor and Will Campbell both had "double-doubles" and a total of five UAB players scored in double figures as the Blazers (13-10) defeated Centenary (8-16) 97-62 in non-conference action Monday evening at Bartow Arena.
Batchelor led UAB with 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Campbell had 14 points and 12 rebounds. They were joined by Igor Nikolic with 15 points, P.J. Arnold with 13, and Tom Frericks with 11.
Centenary was led by the top-ranked scorer in NCAA Division I basketball, guard Ronnie McCollum, who finished with 26 points, just under his 28.9 points per game average. Guard Kevin Atamah was the only other Centenary player to reach double figures, finishing with 12 points.
UAB opened a 21-6 lead in the first eight minutes of the game and never looked back, pushing its lead to 21 at the half (45-24) and eventually to as many as 44 points in the game's final minute.
