LOUISVILLE, Ky. - LeAndrew Bass had 21 points and six assists Tuesday night as UAB beat Louisville 74-57 for its first victory over the Cardinals at Freedom Hall.
Will Campbell scored 14, Eric Batchelor had 13 and P.J. Arnold added 12 for the Blazers (16-12, 8-7 Conference USA), who beat the Cardinals for the second straight time but just the third time in nine meetings.
Reece Gaines scored 17 and Erik Brown added 13 to lead Louisville (11-18, 7-8), which lost its record ninth home game of the season. Marques Maybin, the team's leading scorer averaging 18.3 points per game, went 3-for-13 from the floor and scored just 10.
Louisville's loss record matches the second-most in a regular season under coach Denny Crum.
The Blazers took the lead in the first three minutes of the game and never trailed again. They didn't commit a turnover in the first 12 1/2 minutes of the game, building a 27-16 lead.
Maybin sank a 3-pointer from the wing to trigger an 11-4 Louisville run. But Bass scored five points in the last three minutes of the half as UAB pushed the lead back to nine by halftime.
Louisville went 12-of-33 (36 percent) in the first half, including 1-of-8 (13 percent) from 3-point range.
Arnold hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first minute of the second half to increase the Blazers' lead to 44-29.
The Blazers maintained their 15-point lead into the final five minutes, as the Cardinals went six minutes without a basket. Campbell sank two free throws with 4:51 left to give UAB a 64-47 lead. The Cardinals got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Louisville, the league's second-best 3-point shooting team, went 5-of-26 (19 percent) from 3-point range on Tuesday night, its second-worst percentage of the season. The Cardinals went 22-of-71 from the floor overall (31 percent), matching their worst shooting percentage in a game this season.
