Five UAB Softball Players Earn All-Conference Awards

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Five members of the UAB softball team received All-Conference awards at the pre-tournament banquet in Louisville, Ky.
Sophomore outfielder Cliffanie Engram and sophomore infielder Candice Hithe were both named Second Team All-Conference USA. Engram, a preseason All-Conference selection, currently ranks third in the conference in RBI (38), is tied for third home runs (7), tied for fourth in total bases (92), tied for seventh in doubles (12) and tied for ninth in slugging percentage (.500). Engram also holds the UAB single season and career records for batting average, runs, at bats, doubles, home runs, total bases, RBI and slugging percentage. Hithe, also a preseason All-Conference selection, is tied for second in the conference in stolen bases with 25 steals out of 27 attempts and ranks second in sacrifice bunts with 14 on the year. Hithe holds the UAB single season and career records for both categories. She currently leads the team in batting average (.301).
Catcher Amanda Ellis, infielder Beth Mullins and outfielder Emily Scarbrough were each named to the All-Freshman Team. Ellis currently leads the conference in runners picked off with a total of three and her 13 throw outs on runners attempting to steal places her in a tie for fourth in the conference. Mullins has started 49 games for the Blazers this season and is second on the team in home runs (3). Scarbrough has played in 43 games for UAB and has posted 11 runs on the season.
