FORT WORTH, Texas ----- UAB (6-3-3, 2-1-2 C-USA) exploded for four goals for the second time in three games, to defeat Conference USA rival TCU (2-10, 1-3 C-USA) by a count of 4-0 here Wednesday. After opening the season with a rash of injuries and a 1-2-1 record, a now healthy UAB has gone 5-1-2 over its last eight games, with the lone loss coming to nationally-ranked Saint Louis.
"I think we have finally found our scoring touch," UAB head coach Mike Getman said. "I am pleased with the way our defense has been playing. We have had three straight shutouts and to do that against Conference USA opponents is quite an achievement. We are playing better soccer now that we are healthy."
This marked the second time this season UAB has put up four goals against a C-USA opponent. The Blazers also scored four goals against Charlotte earlier this month (October 5).
Jermie Frankson led the scoring attack by scoring twice in the contest. He scored the game-winning goal at the 14:41 mark of the first half and his second goal came at the 54:42 mark. Houston, Texas native Rogerio Oliveira scored his first goal of the season in the 21st minute, while Mikey Spitzer capped the scoring off in the 74th minute.
The Blazers' shutout victory marked the third consecutive shutout which is just one shy of tying a school record which was set last season. UAB's defense also held TCU without a shot in the first half, and to just six shots for the entire contest.
UAB goalkeeper Clint Baumstark made three saves and now has racked up 310:51 without allowing a goal. In his last five contests, four of which were C-USA games,Baumstark has allowed only two goals, while the Blazers have scored 11 times.
UAB will return home to West Campus Field when it continues play in C-USA by hosting DePaul on Saturday, October 19, at 7 p.m.
