Women's Golf Finishes Eighth at Edwin Watts/Carolinas Classic

PINEHURST, N.C. - The UAB women's golf team shot a final round 322 fora 639 total to finish eighth at the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Classic Tuesday afternoon at the Par 72, 5,869-yard Pinehurst #8 Golf Course.
Memphis captured medalist honors with 610 after firing rounds of 311-299. First day leader North Carolina-Greensboro (293-318/611) fired a final round 318 to finish one shot back of Memphis. Host Charleston Southern (612), North, Carolina-Willmington (622), and Penn State (631) rounded out the top-five teams.
Senior Heather Lourie (Montreal, Quebec) was the top scorer for UAB placing 15th. Lourie fired a 76 on Monday and posted a final round 79. Next in line for the Blazers, freshman Brooke Mangan (Victoria, Australia) finished tied for 21st with rounds of 80-76.
Memphis' Marianne Ruud, Charleston Southern's Julie St. Onge, UNCG's Dani Heimbecker, and Carol Green of James Madison all tied for individual honors with a 150 total.
Also for the Blazers, junior Christina Gushanas (Pearland, Texas) finished tied for 45th with rounds of 80-82 for a 156 total. Tied for 66th, junior Jenni Elmore (Fort Payne, Ala.) shot 81-85 to finish with 166. Sophomore Katie Kane (Baton Rouge, La.) finished with 87-87/174 to finish in a tie for 98th.
The Blazers are back in action on March 4-5 in New Orleans, La. at the Green Wave Classic.
