Softball Drops Two on the Road

Jacksonville, Ala. - The Blazers (11-7) drop two to Jacksonville State (11-3) on the road. JSU won the first 3-1 and the second, 7-3.
JSU took game one scoring two runs in the top of the second inning off three hits and one error, 2-0.
The Gamecocks added a run, 3-0, in the bottom of the fourth inning off two hits.
Junior Candice Hithe (Daphne, Ala.) singled in the top of the sixth inning with one out. Hithe stole second and then scored on a hit by outfielder Cliffanie Engram (Pelham, Ala.), 3-1.
Top hitter for UAB was Hithe going two for three, with a stolen base and scoring a run.
Kerri Foster (McCalla, Ala.) took the lost for the Blazers throwing four innings, allowing two runs off four hits. Foster (4-3) recorded two strikeouts on the day.
In game two, the Gamecocks scored first in the bottom of the second inning. They scored four runs off two hits and two errors.
Engram led off the third inning with a home run over center field fence, 4-1. Senior Aimee Vaughn (New Orleans, La.) singled to right field. Vaughn scored on a double to right by senior Kai Paul (Birmingham, Ala.), 4-2. Paul scored on an error by JSU second baseman, 4-3.
JSU scored again in the third inning off two hits, 5-3.
The Gamecocks added two more runs in the fourth off of two hits and two errors, 7-3.
Senior Megan Stephenson (4-3) took the lost for UAB throwing all seven innings, allowing seven runs off nine hits, recording six strikeouts.
The Blazers are up next in the Magic City Tournament at Samford, beginning Friday afternoon. UAB will face Birmingham Southern at 3:30 and Samford at 7:30.
