Women's Golf Finishes Tenth at LSU/CLeveland Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. - The UAB women's golf team shot a final round 317 to finish 10th at the LSU/Cleveland Classic Sunday, held at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La.
The Blazers finished with rounds of 316, 315, 317 for a 948 three-day total. Auburn ran away with the title finishing with 883, 12 strokes ahead of host LSU. South Carolina finished third with 911, while Vanderbilt (913) and Mississippi (918) rounded out fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
For the Blazers, freshman Brooke Mangan was the top finisher with a final round 80 to tie for 26th place. The Mornington, Australia product carded a 74 on Friday, followed by a 79 Saturday to finish with 233.
LSU's Meredith Duncan ripped up the course with rounds of 71-71-73 for a 1-under par 215. Auburn's Celeste Troche and Kigsley Barrett tied for second with 218, followed by teammate Danielle Downey in fourth at 220.
UAB Senior Heather Lourie managed to shoot better every day after beginning day one with and 82. The Montreal, Canada native followed it up with a 75-78 for a 235, good enough for a share of 34th place.
Junior Jenni Elmore finished in a tie for 44th spot with a 240 total after tallying rounds of 81-79-80. Junior Christina Gushanas finished the tournament tied for 53rd after rounds of 79-85-80, while freshman Marika Pluta rounded out the Blazer squad with 84-82-79 and a share of 56th place.
The Blazers will get in a couple weeks of practice before heading to the Conference USA Championship on April 19-21 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
