Blazers Fall To Ole Miss 3-0

OXFORD, Miss. - UAB (9-12, 2-2 Conference USA) fell to Ole Miss 30-20, 30-24, 30-14 in volleyball action Tuesday evening at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Blazers were led by senior outside hitter Martina Shields who had 12.5 points on 12 kills while hitting for .320. Senior middle blocker Karen Boyd added 10 points on eight kills and three total blocks and freshman setters Bilun Gunal and Jenna Link posted 18 assists and 12 assists respectively.
"We had a real inconsistent team performance tonight and got out-played by a very good Ole Miss team," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "Our team must learn to fight and be more competitive in the future."
Freshman outside hitter Jaclyn Toohey led Ole Miss (4-16, 2-4 Southeastern Conference) with 13 points on 13 kills while hitting for .417. Freshman setter Jennifer McGowan added 44 assists for the Rebels.
UAB returns to action Friday as the Blazers play at C-USA rival Memphis (19-2, 2-1 C-USA) at 7 p.m.
