MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis (20-2, 3-1 Conference USA) defeated UAB 30-20, 30-18, 30-25 in Conference USA volleyball action Friday evening at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
Senior middle blocker Karen Boyd had 11 points on nine kills and two total blocks, while hitting for .467 to lead UAB (9-13, 2-3 C-USA). Freshman setter Bilun Gunal added 23 assists for the Blazers.
"We got out-played by a good Memphis team," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "Offensively, we made too many errors and Memphis played really well. Some of our younger players need to mature a little bit with the experience they are getting and our seniors need to continue to lead with their performances."
Junior outside hitter Tiara Gilkey led Memphis with 15 points on 12 kills and four total blocks. Junior setter Heather Watts added 35 assists for the Tigers.
UAB will play at C-USA rival Saint Louis (7-14, 0-4 C-USA) Saturday at 7 p.m.
