ST. LOUIS, Mo. - UAB (10-13, 3-3 Conference USA) defeated Saint Louis 30-27, 30-27, 30-18 in Conference USA volleyball action Saturday evening at the Bauman-Eberhardt Center.
Senior outside hitter Martina Shields led the match with 18 points, 17 kills and 13 digs, while hitting for .306 for UAB. Sophomore outside/right side hitter Lindsay Carnohan also recorded a double-double for the Blazers with 10 kills and 12 digs to go along with 12 points and two service aces. Senior middle blocker Karen Boyd had 13 points on nine kills, four total blocks and two service aces and freshman setter Bilun Gunal added 45 assists for UAB.
"We had a strong team performance tonight," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "It was good to play well and get our confidence back. We need to continue to develop our team depth and the consistency in our performances."
Saint Louis (7-15, 0-5 C-USA) was led by junior middle hitter Kayla Kmitta who had 10.5 points on seven kills and five total blocks to go along with a .538 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Erin McClanahan added 19 assists for the Billikens.
UAB returns home to Bartow Arena Friday to host C-USA rival Houston at 7 p.m.
