STOCKTON, Calif. - The UAB volleyball team (14-20, 6-7 Conference USA) fell to Pittsburgh 30-17, 30-22, 30-21 in consolation play at the Banker's Classic hosted by the University of the Pacific.
Senior middle blocker Karen Boyd had 10.5 points on nine kills and three total blocks to lead the Blazers. Freshman setters Bilun Gunal and Jenna Link had 15 assists and 14 assists respectively for UAB.
"We did not have a very good team performance tonight," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "We struggled the last couple of weeks of the season, playing some tough competition. Our team continued to come back and fight very well match after match. Pittsburgh is a strong team and played with a lot of maturity and leadership. This was a hard way for our team to end the season, especially for the seniors. Overall, we are a young team, but I am proud of what the seniors gave to the program."
Pittsburgh (25-5) was led by senior outside hitter Sarah Rollman who had 17 points on 15 kills while hitting for .389. Junior setter Lindsey Macke added 44 assists and 11 digs for the Panthers.
The loss to the Panthers ended the season for the Blazers. UAB enjoyed its most wins since the 1997 season in 2003 and captured its most conference wins since joining Conference USA in 1995.
