BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team began gearing up for its conference game against Tulane with a shortened practice here Tuesday. The Blazers, who usually practice for more than two and a half hours on Tuesdays, were only on the field for just over 90 minutes.
"We cut practice down a little today," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "I wanted to see if we could get our legs back a little. I thought we looked a little tired last Saturday against Army. We're going to see if we can get a little fresher this week."
Other than the shortened time, practice was business as usual, as the team practiced in shorts and pads.
"It was a typical Tuesday for us," Brown said. "We were a little unpolished. We were looking at different stuff today. Hopefully, it'll get better tomorrow."
The Blazers are changing some things on offense this week due to some more injuries. Fullbacks Theron Dudley and Corey White are expected to see some action at tailback, as Bo Moncur continues to recover from a previous injury.
"Theron and Corey practiced at both positions today," said Brown. "We're going to have to play both of them due to Bo's injury. I'm still concerned about Bo, I don't feel like he's well. We may have to take him off and let him get well. We need another back, so Theron and Corey are going to have to make that adjustment."
UAB is looking for its second-straight win. The Blazers fell to Tulane last season, 35-14, on Oct. 19 in New Orleans. The Blazers hold a 2-1 advantage in the series and won the only previous game at Legion Field, beating the Green Wave, 34-27, on Oct. 20, 2001. Tulane will attempt to snap a five-game losing streak. Most recently, the Green Wave lost to Navy, 35-17, on Nov. 1.
The game will be UAB's last home game of the season as four seniors, Wilbert Hamilton, Larry Coachman, Warren Butler and Artavious Williams finish out their Legion Field careers.
UAB will resume practice on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
