Men's Basketball Falls To Western Michigan, 69-62

MOBILE, Ala. - Mike Williams scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Western Michigan over UAB 69-62 Monday night at the Coors Classic in Mobile.
Ben Reed scored 16 points for the Broncos (4-1) and Anthony Kann added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Demario Eddins led the Blazers (3-2) with 18 points and seven boards, while Gabe Kennedy added 11 points. Sidney Ball and Ronell Taylor scored 10 points each for UAB.
Senior guard Morris Finley, who is UAB's leading scorer and was coming off a career-high 38 points against Mississippi State, was 0-for-5 from the floor and did not score a point. Finley was forced out of the game, due to an injury, after playing only 17 minutes.
The Broncos, who led 30-25 at the half, took a 14-point lead after Reed hit a 3-pointer on Williams' steal. Rickey Willis and Reggie Berry followed with back-to-back 3-pointers, making it 43-29 with 12:32 remaining in the game.
The Blazers got as close as 4 points after a series of free throws by Ball, Eddins and Taylor. The Blazers had several chances to cut the lead to two; however, UAB never caught up
Still, the Blazers scored 24 points off Western Michigan's 23 turnovers, while the Broncos managed 17 turnover points. UAB also collected a season-high 13 steals on the evening.
But the Broncos, who hit 46 percent of their shots, dominated the boards 42-27 and held UAB to 43 percent shooting.
UAB's 62 points on the night was a season-low, as the Blazers had scored at least 83 points in each of the previous four contests on the season.
UAB will next remain on the road when it will attempt to snap a two-game losing streak as the Blazers battle VCU on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Richmond, Va.
