Men's Basketball Set To Play Third Consecutive Road Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's basketball team will play its third straight road game when the Blazers travel to Richmond, Va., to take on the Rams of Virginia Commonweatlh on Thursday, Dec. 18. It will mark the 33rd meeting between the two schools, with the Blazers holding a 17-15 advantage in the series' history.
The Blazers are coming off of a disappointing 69-62 loss against Western Michigan in the Coors Classic which was played in Mobile, Ala. The Blazers have four players averaging double-figure scoring, and are led by Mo Finley's 14.4 points per game. As a team, UAB is one of the nation's leaders in steals per game (12.0) and turnovers forced per game (23.4).
VCU enters Thursday's game as winners in five of its first six games this season. Most recently, VCU cruised past North Carolina A&T, 105-51, on Dec. 15. The Rams also have four players averaging double-figures, led by Domonic Jones' 17.8 ppg. Troy Godwin leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game, while Alex Harper averages a team-high 4.0 assists per game.
The Blazers (3-2) and Rams (5-1) will be meeting for the 33rd time in the series' history. The Blazers have won two of the last three and seven of the last nine contests. The Rams were victorious in the last meeting between the two schools, taking an 82-76 victory in Richmond, Va., on Dec. 15, 2001. There has been only three other schools which UAB has played more times (Charlotte - 37, South Alabama - 38 and USF - 49).
