UAB's Zac Woodfin Named First-Team All-Conference USA

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB linebacker Zac Woodfin, who led all Conference USA defenders this season in total tackles, has been named to the 2003 All-Conference USA first-team, announced Wednesday.
The all-conference teams were voted on by the league's 11 head coaches and media members in each conference city.
Woodfin, a junior from Prattville, Ala., enjoyed his second straight outstanding campaign as he recorded 149 overall tackles, breaking the UAB single-season record of 120 stops he set as a sophomore in 2002. Woodfin registered 94 solo hits and 55 assists for the Blazers who completed their 2003 season with a 5-7 overall record and 4-4 mark in C-USA.
Woodfin was UAB's only player selected to the first team but two other Blazers were tabbed for all-league honors.
Junior placekicker Nick Hayes of Birmingham was named to the second unit. Hayes connected on 17-of-20 field goals overall during the season and increased his career totals to 44-for-57 on three-point attempts.
Wide receiver Roddy White also picked up all-conference honors as a third-team selection. White was on the receiving end of 39 passes in 2003 for 844 yards and seven touchdowns. His 21.6 yards per catch average was second-best in C-USA for any receiver with more than 25 receptions.
Regular season conference champion Southern Miss placed a league-high 15 players on the all-conference teams, with eight first-team selections. Runner-up TCU produced 11 all-league selections with four players earning a spot on the first team. Louisville and Memphis each go into postseason play with eight all-league choices.
