BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Andre Hall ran for a school record 275 yards on 29 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead South Florida to a 45-20 come-from-behind victory over UAB Wednesday night.
South Florida (3-4, 2-3 Conference USA) trailed by 10 in the third quarter before a stunning turnaround sparked by a 77-yard touchdown pass from Pat Julmiste to Johnny Peyton. Hall had touchdown runs of 35 and 63 yards to put the game away in the closing minutes.
UAB (5-3, 3-2) was leading 20-17 late in the third quarter when the Blazers drove to the South Florida 19-yard line. Darrell Hackney completed a pass to Roddy White at the five, but White fumbled giving South Florida the ball on the six-yard line.
Julmiste's pass to Peyton came on the fifth play of the ensuing 94-yard drive and gave the Bulls a 24-20 lead. Twenty-six seconds later, Bruce Gipson intercepted a Hackney pass and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown, giving South Florida a 31-20 lead.
"I am very disappointed," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "We went from 17-10 to losing. I'll take whatever heat for the loss. We still have a lot to play for this season. We have to play with a sense of urgency and figure out what's been going on for the last two weeks. Hopefully, we can turn this thing around. That's my job.
"We've got to play better football, because we were not the same team that played here two week ago against TCU."
South Florida entered the game ranked last in total offense in Conference USA, but the Bulls had 535 yards against UAB. The victory allowed South Florida to avoid the first four-game losing streak in the school's eight-year football history.
UAB has allowed 104 points in losing its last two games. Corey White ran for 83 yards and three touchdowns for UAB.
Roddy White caught seven passes for 110 yards for UAB.
Corey White was the Blazers leading rusher with 83 yards on 15 carries.
