BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team practiced for the first time in a week, after the Blazers took several days off for final exams. UAB continues to prepare for its first-ever bowl game, as the Blazers will face Hawai'i in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl on Christmas Eve in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
"When you take several days off, you pay for it," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "We have to get back and have a better practice tomorrow. Our timing looked like we hadn't practice in quite some time. We need to get better and I think we will tomorrow. If we can get some conditioning and work on timing and assignments, that's good enough. We'll get a couple of days of pad practices in Honolulu."
The Blazers finished 7-4 and 5-3 in Conference USA play and look for their third-consecutive win when they face the Warriors at 2 p.m. (HST) in Aloha Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
Hawai'i is led by senior quarterback Timmy Chang who is the NCAA's all-time leading passer, throwing for 16,667 yards during his career. The Warriors are 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. Hawai'i was selected to participate in the bowl game after a 41-38 come-from-beyond victory over Michigan State on Dec. 4.
UAB will practice again on Friday before leaving for Honolulu later that night.
