HONOLULU ----- The UAB football team arrived here Saturday morning as the Blazers look to their Christmas Eve matchup with Hawai'i in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.
After arriving at 11:00 a.m. following its flight from Birmingham that included a short stop-over in San Francisco for re-fueling, the Blazers went straight to Aloha Stadium where they held a light 45-minute workout. Breaking a sweat was no problem as temperatures on Oahu reached the mid-80s Saturday afternoon.
UAB (7-4), which is playing in its bowl game, will get back to a normal routine Sunday. The Blazers are scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. practice at Aloha Stadium.
"It's great to get out here," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "It's a long way over here, but our players are excited about this opportunity. This week will be a great experience for them. We'll get back to our regular game-week preparations tomorrow."
UAB and Hawai'i will kick off in the Dec. 24th game at 2:00 p.m. HST. The contest will be televised by ESPN.
