UAB vs. Nebraska
December 2, 2004
Birmingham, Ala.
UAB head coach Mike Anderson
On the victory:
"I'm happy to see our basketball team come in and play tremendous defense, establish their inside presence, get to the free-throw line and for the most part, I thought we rebounded pretty effectively early on. "
On the performance of his players:
"Marques [Lewis] had a breakout game. A career-high, and that's what you need. Each night it is going to be somebody different to step up. Demario [Eddins] played with a lot more energy and when he's playing like that, it has an effect on other guys. Our bench again came up huge. There's a lot of people coming in and doing different things. "
UAB senior forward Marques Lewis
On his performance:
"Once I hit my first shot, I knew it would be pretty good. I knew I had to step up. I was glad to step up tonight and show everybody that I can get the job done."
On making the transition to Division I basketball:
"There's a big difference for a big man to go from junior college to Division I. Every big man you play against is good. But once you get into the game's rhythm and learn to understand the game better, it gets easier."
Nebraska head coach Barry Collier
On UAB's smothering defense:
"We played into their hands. They forced a lot of the turnovers, but we also didn't break down off the dribble and get back under control in the half court after breaking the press. Its not like we never wanted to take advantage of an open basket, but a three-pointer off the break is not a good shot."
On Nebraska's performance:
"We had a number of guys really struggle tonight. We need to play with more intensity and meet the challenge."
