UAB Volleyball Team Drops 3-2 Decision to Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team lost to in-state rival Auburn, 3-2, on Saturday as the Blazers battled the host Tigers to the fifth game before dropping the overall decision at the Student Activities Center.
The Blazers (0-8) won games two and four, hitting at a .297 clip (29-10-64), but hit a mere .023 (23-21-87) in games one, three, and five, all of which they lost. UAB dominated the fourth game, winning 30-17, but Auburn came back to take the fifth game by a score of 15-13 to clinch the match.
Ashlee Johns led Auburn with 20 kills on Saturday while three other players combined for 33 kills. Bailey Veit led the Tigers with 13 digs. UAB held the Tigers to a hitting percentage of .088 in the two games that they lost.
UAB was originally set to face both Belmont and Jackson State in the War Eagle Invitational, but the tournament bracket was altered once both teams withdrew due to travel complications caused by Hurricane Ivan.
The Blazers will face Mississippi State on Tuesday, Sept. 21 in Starkville, Miss., at 7 p.m.
