BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team wrapped up its final practice in helmets and shoulder pads on Thursday before Saturday's game against first-place UCF at Legion Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT in what will be the Blazers' final home game of the 2005 season. Head coach Watson Brown feels his team is prepared to square off against the Golden Knights.
"I think we're ready," said Brown. "We got a couple of extra days of practice which let us go a little slower through our gameplan. I feel good about it, I really do. Now we just have to go out and play well against a good team."
UAB (4-4, 2-3 C-USA) picked up an important, 37-20 victory over Memphis on Nov. 1 at the Liberty Bowl. After dropping three-straight conference games, Darrell Hackney helped the Blazers halt their losing streak, throwing for 334 yards and four touchdowns. Corey White also ran for a career-high 200 yards in UAB's sixth-straight win over the Tigers.
UCF (6-3, 5-1 C-USA) became bowl eligible last Saturday with a 31-29 victory over Houston at the Florida Citrus Bowl. With their five conference victories, the Golden Knights sit atop the C-USA East Division standings.
Also on Saturday there will be a reunion celebrating the first 10 years of Division I-A football at UAB. All former players, from club level football at UAB to the present, have been invited to attend a pre-game reception prior to kickoff with the Golden Knights.
In addition to being televised on CSTV, the game will be carried live on the ISP Blazer Sports Network on the flagship station, WYDE-FM 101.1.
