BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB football team practiced Wednesday in preparation for Saturday's final home game against UCF on Nov. 12 at 3:00 p.m. CT. The Blazers will face the Golden Knights for the third-time in school history. Saturday will be senior day for the Blazers and can be seen live on CSTV.
"It's good to be late in the year and still have something to play for," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "We've had good practices and a couple of extra days off to prepare for UCF. Saturday will be a very emotional game for everyone with it being senior day but we have to be ready to play. UCF is still in the hunt for a conference title if they win out, so both teams have a lot to play for."
UAB is 4-4 on the season and 2-3 in Conference USA. The Blazers are coming off a 37-20 win over Memphis on Nov. 1. UAB is led by senior quarterback Darrell Hackney, who has 2,478 yards this season an average of just over 300 yards per game. Against Memphis, Hackney was 25-of-42 for 334 yards and four touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Reggie Lindsey leads the Blazers with 681 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. UAB had its first 200-yard rusher this season against Memphis when junior Corey White hit the 200 mark on 28 carries. White has 463 yards and five touchdowns this year.
UCF enters the game with a 6-3 overall record and lead the East Division of Conference USA with a 5-1 league mark. The Golden Knights are led by head coach George O'Leary, who has UCF bowl eligible after last weeks win over Houston, 31-29. UCF brings a talented team into Legion Field Saturday led by junior quarterback Steven Moffett. Moffett has 2,046 yards passing this season and has primarily looked to Mike Walker and Brandon Marshall who both have over 700 yards receiving this season. Marshall led the Golden Knights last week with 120 receiving yards in the victory over the Cougars.
The Blazers will honor 18 seniors Saturday and celebrate the 10th anniversary of Division I-A football. All former players, from club level football to the present, have been invited to attend a pre-game reception prior to kickoff with the Golden Knights.
UAB and UCF will be televised on CSTV and will be carried live on the ISP Blazer Sports Network on the flagship station, WYDE-FM 101.1 FM.
