UAB head coach Mike Anderson
On the win: "Depaul is a good basketball team, but I thought our guys put on a gut-wrenching performance. It was a great basketball game for TV and for our fans here."
On UAB's performances: "We hung in there and gave ourselves a chance to win. We had guys come up with key plays for us. Donell (Taylor) hit a big three for us, Squeaky (Johnson) hit the shot in overtime. Demario (Eddins) comes back out, bad hip and all, and knocks two free throws down. I can't say enough about our team. They had every reason to fold the tent after Quemont Greer hit that three. "
On De Paul: "They had open shots and they made them. They hit 12 threes, how many times are you going to withstand a team shooting like that? But our defense was the biggest difference in this game. I thought the wear and tear made a difference and took a toll on them. They missed some shots down the stretch and I think the fatigue was the reason."
On Marques Lewis: "He sat there the whole game and bugged me to put him in. Then I did and he came in there and made some big plays for us."
DePaul Coach Dave Leitao
On the end of the game: "We wanted it to come down to a last second shot. I wanted to open up some balls, possibly get a two. Maybe get a three, but I was much more concerned with getting points on the board. Twelve seconds is a lot of time. I thought maybe we could have forced another over time and won the basketball game.
On Drake Diener: "(Drake) Diener has led the team for the last six or seven weeks. He has been making tough shots and playing a lot of defense. I told the team that we are relying on him a little too much. When we lean on him, that is good for him, but at the same time we are wearing him out too much."
On DePaul's defense: "Our defense did not have the comfort level that good teams need to have. When you go on the road and you play without defense your rebounding has to carry it. We did not get any of that, especially on the defense end."
