BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Brianna Galvin, a senior libero on the UAB volleyball team, has been named this week's UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Galvin is the school record holder for digs in a single-season (592) and is third all-time at UAB in career digs with 1,449. The San Carlos, Calif. native was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2006 for her academic success.
Galvin helped the Blazers to a 3-0 record last week to run the team's current win streak to eight matches. On the season, Galvin is averaging 3.96 digs per game to lead the team and rank 10th in Conference USA.
On Sept. 4, Galvin was recognized as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week.
Galvin was a member of the first-ever Conference USA Tournament championship team last season and set the tournament record for digs with 83.
The Blazers, who are currently in a tie for third in the league standings, will play host to Houston and Rice this weekend.
Galvin is a biology major at UAB.
