BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior Casey Dent, a middle blocker on the UAB volleyball team, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Team for the second straight year. The honor adds to the already lengthy list of academic accolades for Dent, who was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team as a sophomore in 2006.
"Casey epitomizes the role of a student-athlete," said UAB head coach Kerry Messersmith. "She works hard, is a good leader and is extremely talented. When you have someone on your team that is as good a student and athlete that Casey is, it just really makes you proud."
Dent is a two-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and was awarded the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal as a sophomore.
Dent is averaging 2.88 kills per game this season and holds a team-best hitting percentage at .328. She ranks second all-time at UAB in career hitting percentage at .329.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams are voted on by college and university Sports Information, Media Relations and Athletic Communications professionals who are members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
