BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB senior linebacker Joe Henderson has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player-of-the-Week after his outstanding game in last Saturday's 23-21 victory over Marshall.
Henderson, from Birmingham, recorded 13 tackles, including eight solos, against the Thundering Herd. He also registered four tackles for loss in the game. Henderson and the UAB defense held Marshall's offense scoreless in the second half of Saturday's game.
Henderson is UAB's leading tackler and ranks No. 7 in C-USA with 61 stops. He is second in tackles for loss with 11.5, trailing only Houston's Phillip Hunt in that category.
This is the second time that Henderson has been named the league's player-of-the-week. He also picked up the honor in October of the 2006 season when he was a sophomore.
UAB will have an open date this week before resuming action on Saturday, Nov. 1 when the Blazers travel to C-USA rival Southern Miss (7:00 p.m. CDT, CSS TV).
