BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- With the temperature in the low 50s and a brisk wind blowing, the UAB football team was back on the practice field Tuesday afternoon for slightly more than two hours.
After several light practices last week because of an open date on the schedule, the Blazers resumed their normal routine as they prepare for this weekend's Conference USA contest at Southern Miss. UAB travels to Hattiesburg, Miss., for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff Saturday in a game that will be televised by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS).
UAB head coach Neil Callaway was pleased with the attitude and freshness of his team Tuesday coming off the bye week.
"The intensity and the tempo were good, and we got a lot of good work in," Callaway said. "We're still trying to get the plan for Southern Miss sharpened up. We weren't quite as far along with it as I hoped we'd be, but hopefully we'll get better tomorrow."
In Saturday's matchup, UAB will look to build upon momentum from its Oct. 18 Homecoming win over Marshall. The Blazers defeated the Thundering Herd, 23-21, to improve to 2-6 (1-3 C-USA).
Southern Miss also owns a 2-6 overall mark, but the Golden Eagles are 0-4 in league play. The team is coming off a 36-30 conference loss last Saturday at Memphis.
Saturday's game will be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network. It can be heard locally on WWMM 100.5 FM radio in Birmingham.
