BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced for more than an hour on Thursday afternoon as the Blazers continued their preparations for Saturday night's Conference USA game against Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The team practiced in shorts and helmets for 12 periods, putting the finishing touches on its game plan. UAB head coach Neil Callaway was satisfied with Thursday's practice.
"It was a good day today," said Callaway. "We finished up our game plan. Everyone was attentive. I think we are in pretty good shape."
Callaway was also pleased with the team's effort the entire week. The Blazers are coming off a bye week after a 23-21 win over Marshall on Oct. 18.
"I thought Tuesday was slow from a mental standpoint," said Callaway. "With the time off it took them a little longer to back in the groove, but the effort was great the whole week."
Callaway also announced the team captains for Saturday's game will be Joe Henderson on defense, Frantrell Forrest on offense and Zach Lankford on special teams.
Southern Miss enters Saturday's game 0-4 in Conference USA and a 2-6 overall. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 36-30 loss last Saturday at Memphis.
UAB and Southern Miss will kick off on Saturday night at 7 p.m. CT and will be televised live by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS). Saturday's game will also be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network on WWMM 100.5 FM radio.
