BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- B.J. Steed, a linebacker on the Blazer football team, has been named the UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. In addition to his contributions on the football field, Steed has performed at a high level in the classroom.
Steed has played in eight games with one start this season for UAB, registering 10 tackles and one pass breakup. Over his Blazer career, he has seen action in 25 games and tallied 62 tackles.
A junior eligibility-wise, Steed is a senior academically and will be recognized during the Senior Day ceremony at Saturday's final home game versus East Carolina. The Sioux City, Iowa, native is a mass communications major, a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and the sports editor of UAB's student newspaper, The Kaleidoscope. He was recognized with Presidential Honors in the spring of 2007.
Steed and the Blazers host East Carolina Saturday at 6 p.m. CT in Conference USA action at Legion Field. The game will be televised by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS). It will also be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard locally on WWMM 100.5 FM radio in Birmingham.
