MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- For the third year in a row, UAB senior volleyball player Casey Dent has been selected to the Conference USA All-Academic Team. The team was announced Thursday as the C-USA Volleyball Championship opened in Memphis.
A middle blocker for the Blazers, Dent is a finance major with a 3.74 GPA. She is also an Academic All-America candidate after being named earlier this month to the ESPN The Magazine All-District IV First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
On the court, Dent has been a key contributor for the Blazers over the past four years. The Helena, Ala., product ranks second all-time at UAB with a .335 career hitting percentage and ninth in school annals with 1,234 career kills.
In 2008, Dent has helped UAB to its best regular season in school history. She ranks 25th in the nation with a .383 hitting percentage for a Blazer team that has compiled a record of 23-5 overall (13-3 C-USA). On Wednesday, Dent was named to the All-Conference USA First Team.
Dent and the Blazers secured the No. 2 seed in this week's C-USA Championship. They earned a first-round bye and will take the court Friday at 5 p.m. CT against the winner of Thursday's match between No. 7 seed Southern Miss and No. 10 seed Marshall.
