MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- After a first-round bye, the No. 2 seed UAB volleyball team will take the court Friday at 5 p.m. CT in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championship.
UAB will play 10th-seeded Marshall, which advanced Thursday with a 3-0 sweep of seventh-seeded Southern Miss. The Blazers and Thundering Herd will square of at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse, home of the host Memphis Tigers.
Fans can follow Friday's match and the entire tournament online via C-USA Volleyball Championship Central at www.conferenceusa.com. Gametracker live stats are available for each match along with All-Access streaming video through the semifinals. Sunday's championship match will be televised by CBS College Sports.
UAB and Marshall met twice during the regular season with the Blazers winning both matchups. In a hard-fought match Sept. 28 in Huntington, W. Va., UAB survived for a 3-2 victory. The Blazers then earned a 3-1 win Nov. 2 when the teams met in Birmingham.
The teams have now split eight all-time meetings, but they have never faced each other in the conference tournament.
UAB has already taken home some hardware this week in terms of individual awards. At Wednesday's pre-tournament banquet, senior Nevena Stefanov was named the C-USA Setter of the Year. Stefanov also joined senior teammates Ivana Bozic and Casey Dent on the All-Conference First Team, while fellow senior Lilly Domingos earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.
On Thursday, Dent picked up more honors when she was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team for the third year in a row.
This weekend, the Blazers are looking to continue their recent success in the C-USA Championship. UAB has gone 6-1 in league tournament play over the past two seasons. The Blazers have advanced to the finals in each of the past two years, winning the title in 2006.
UAB enters this year's tournament with wins in 17 of its past 19 matches. The Blazers have put together the best regular season in school history, going 23-5 overall and posting their best Conference USA record ever at 13-3.
Marshall enters Friday's match at 13-14 on the season.
