BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB head coach Mike Davis announced the signing of Dexter Fields to a National Letter of Intent on Sunday. Fields joins Adrien Coleman as members of UAB's 2009-10 recruiting class.
"Dexter Fields is a very talented basketball player who has a knack for scoring," Davis said. "I expect him to play a big role for years to come. He is an athletic guard who has put up some good numbers in high school and AAU. Having signed two guards in Dexter and Adrien, I think we have the makings of an excellent backcourt."
Fields, a 6-2 190-pound shooting guard from Orlando, Fla., will come to UAB from Olympia High School where he was coached by Mark Griseck. During his junior season, Fields averaged 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. As a result, he was tabbed First-Team All-State by the Orlando Sentinel and helped lead his team to a 24-3 overall record.
Entering his senior season, Fields is listed as a three-star player by Rivals.com, while scout.com has him ranked as the 32nd best shooting guard in the nation.
Fields selected UAB after receiving interest from Alabama, LSU, Central Florida and Western Kentucky, among others.
