LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The UAB volleyball team jumped on Kansas early Saturday night and never let up in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-18) sweep of the Jayhawks.
With the win, the Blazers wrapped up their second consecutive undefeated weekend. UAB defeated Cleveland State and Wyoming on Friday before closing the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic with Saturday's win over Kansas.
Last weekend, UAB posted a perfect 3-0 record at Jacksonville State's Gamecock Invitational. With Saturday's victory, the Blazers have now won six matches in a row and own a 6-2 overall record.
"Our girls are playing with a lot of confidence right now," UAB head coach Kerry Messersmith said. "We're playing well, but we know we still have a tough road ahead of us. Our conference is very strong, so we're looking forward and trying to improve each day."
UAB now returns to Birmingham for its home opener and Conference USA opener Thursday against Memphis. The Blazers will then stay in town to host the UAB/Samford Invitational Friday and Saturday.
In the win over Kansas, Ivana Bozic and Casey Dent set the tone for the UAB offensive attack. Bozic tallied a match-high 12 kills and logged a .407 hitting percentage, while Dent was right behind her with a .400 hitting percentage on seven kills.
For the match, UAB hit .272 compared to Kansas, which hit just .018. For the weekend, the Blazers hit .277, while their opponents hit .161.
"We knew Kansas was a good serving team, so we turned up our serving a notch tonight," Messersmith said. "We also passed the ball really well, and that enabled us to run our offense effectively."
UAB setter Nevena Stefanov led all players in the match with 24 assists, and Aleksandra Vujovic notched a match-high 14 digs. Offensively, Andrea Lalic matched Dent with seven kills, and Lilly Domingos added six to go along with three blocks.
Dent was named the MVP of the tournament. Vujovic and Bozic were also named to the all-tournament team.
