Volleyball Defeats Tennessee State, 3-1, Tuesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Ivana Bozic led four Blazers in double figure kills Tuesday night as the UAB volleyball team defeated Tennessee State, 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-18), in non-conference action.
Bozic put down a season-high 21 kills in the victory, while managing a .422 hitting percentage. Teammate Jordan McDonald tallied a career-high 14 kills, followed by Lilly Domingos with 12 and reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week Casey Dent with 10.
Led by Domingos' .600 hitting percentage, the Blazers hit .340 as a team compared to a .243 percentage for Tennessee State.
UAB overcame a slow start to earn its sixth consecutive victory and its 12th win in the past 13 matches. After dropping the first set, UAB grabbed early leads never trailed in the final three. The Blazers improved to 12-3 on the season, while Tennessee State fell to 2-8.
In Tuesday's win, UAB setter Nevena Stefanov handed out 50 assists, averaging 12.5 assists per set. The senior, who ranks second on the Blazers' all-time assists list, has now posted at least 50 assists four times this season.
Stefanov added 10 digs on the night, and Bozic posted 16 digs as both players managed a double-double. Stefanov's double-double was her fifth of the season, while Bozic posted her seventh. Aleksandra Vujovic was the third Blazer in double-digit digs with a match-high 20.
UAB returns to action with a pair of Conference USA matches this weekend. The Blazers host UTEP on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. On Sunday, Tulane visits Birmingham for a 2 p.m. CT contest that will be televised by CBS College Sports.
