EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Senior quarterback Joe Webb threw for two touchdowns, ran one and caught a pass for another as UAB snapped a two-game losing streak and defeated UTEP 38-33 on Saturday.
UAB moved to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in Conference USA play, while UTEP slipped to 3-5 and 2-2.
Webb scored the first of his TDs with a 53-yard run in the second quarter. A few minutes later he connected with Roddell Carter for a 34-yard scoring pass.
Next, Webb was on the receiving end of a 14-yard TD pass by David Isabelle, also in the second quarter.
Finally, Webb found Mario Wright four a 6-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Overall, he finished with 304 total yards - 163 on 20 rushes, 127 on eight pass completions, and 14 on one reception.
Webb also moved into the No. 2 spot on UAB's all-time rushing list and now has 2,330 yards to pass Dan Burks who ran for 2,277 from 2002-06.
UAB seized some early momentum when cornerback Marquis Coleman picked off a Trevor Vittatoe pass and raced 99 yards for a touchdown that gave the Blazers a 7-0 lead after the Miners had driven 12 plays and 76 yards. Coleman's touchdown was the longest scoring play in UAB history.
Defensively, linebacker Lamanski Ware had a season-high 14 tackles for UAB while safety Hiram Atwater added 13.
UTEP's Donald Buckram came up with a few ways to score too. He had touchdown runs of 26 and 2 yards, and he caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Vittatoe.
