BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team worked out in full pads on campus Tuesday morning as preparations continued for Saturday's upcoming Conference USA game at East Carolina.
The Blazers practiced for a little more than an hour in cooler weather than the Birmingham area has seen in recent weeks as temperatures remained in the 40s throughout the morning.
"We're at a time of the year, where we back off a little bit on Tuesdays," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. "We've done that the last four weeks, so it's what we've been doing."
Riding a three-game winning streak for the first time since 2005, UAB will travel to Greenville, N.C., to face an East Carolina team that has won three of its past four games with the only loss during that stretch coming against then-No. 22 Virginia Tech.
As UAB's top-ranked rushing attack looks toward a matchup with the league's No. 1 defense, Callaway saw room for improvement in Tuesday's practice session.
"Offensively, I thought we were kind of sloppy," Callaway said. "I don't know if the weather had something to do with it, but we weren't very good. Defensively, I thought we had a pretty good day."
Saturday's game could go a long way toward determining the C-USA East Division champion as both teams control their own destiny to reach the league's championship game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. CT) Saturday, and the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network broadcast of the game will be televised in Birmingham on ABC 33/40.
The game will also be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in the Birmingham area on flagship station WUHT-FM 107.7 with David Crane (play-by-play) and Jake Arians (color) on the call. The pregame show will begin 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
