BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB volleyball team will host Tulane and Southern Miss in Conference USA action this weekend at Bartow Arena with festivities surrounding both matches.
Friday's 7 p.m. contest with Tulane has been designated as Daddy and Daughter Night. All daughters will receive free admission when their father purchases an adult ticket.
On Sunday at 1 p.m., UAB will meet Southern Miss for the Blazers' second annual Fall Festival with games and activities for kids and families. The Blazers will also be collecting pop tabs from aluminum soda cans for recycling Sunday to benefit RMH.
UAB (6-16, 3-7 C-USA) is looking to build on a 3-1 win over UTEP in its last outing. The Blazers played some of their best volleyball of the season last weekend in their win over the Miners and a close, 3-2 loss at UCF.
UAB hit for a .266 percentage as a team over the two matches and also averaged 2.89 blocks per set on the defensive side of the net. Sam Serley averaged 3.89 kills per set and 1.44 blocks per frame while posting a .556 attack percentage.
Having played seven of its first 10 conference matches against the top half of the league, including six matches against the top four teams, the Blazers are looking to get on track with the C-USA season at its midpoint.
Tulane (7-16, 4-7 C-USA) enters the weekend ninth in the league standings. Like UAB, the Green Wave is coming off a strong showing last weekend with home victories over East Carolina and Marshall.
Southern Miss (13-9, 6-5 C-USA) checks in at fifth in the conference this week. The defending C-USA regular season champion is riding a five-match winning streak and also posted wins over Marshall and East Carolina last weekend. The Golden Eagles play at Memphis on Friday before heading to Birmingham.
