BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB volleyball team is on the road again this weekend for another pair of Conference USA matches.
The Blazers will visit Southern Miss for a 7 p.m. CT contest on Friday night and then head to Tulane for a 1 p.m. CT first serve on Sunday.
UAB (8-18, 5-9 C-USA) has split its past eight conference matches evenly with four wins and four losses. Most recently, the Blazers traveled to Houston last weekend, falling 3-0 to the Cougars and defeating Rice 3-2.
Middle blocker Michelle Uzoh turned in a 12-kill, 10-block performance in the Rice match on her way to C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Fellow middle Sam Serley leads UAB in kills per set (2.93), blocks per set (1.03) and attack percentage (.316). Libero Heather Thomas leads the squad in digs, ranking second in the conference and 26th in the nation at 5.23 per set.
The Blazers hosted both of this weekend's opponents at Bartow Arena two weeks ago. UAB swept Tulane 3-0 and lost to Southern Miss 3-1.
The Green Wave (9-18, 6-9 C-USA) is coming of back-to-back road wins last weekend at UCF and UTEP. Tulane's Oct. 29 loss at UAB is one of just two defeats for the Green Wave in the past six matches.
Southern Miss (16-10, 9-6 C-USA) had an eight-match winning streak snapped in its last outing this past Sunday at UCF with a 3-0 loss to the Knights. The Golden Eagles are currently fourth in the league standings.
