BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Coming off two shutout performances in the past 10 days, junior goalkeeper Tucker Stone of the men's soccer team has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Stone blanked Florida International on Oct. 16 to help the Blazers to a 2-0 conference victory. He was even better Tuesday, holding American scoreless over 120 minutes in a 0-0, double-overtime draw. Stone saved a career-high seven shots against the Eagles.
The Fairview, N.C., product has been equally impressive in the classroom, where he maintains a 3.93 GPA as an economics major. Stone is a three-time UAB President's List honoree and one of only three players in program history to receive the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal three times. He is also a member of the Global and Community Leadership Honors Academy.
Stone and the men's soccer team (8-5-1, 2-3 C-USA) return to action Friday with a trip to Orlando, Fla, to face UCF at 5:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. CT).
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
