TROY, Ala. (AP) - Senior guard Jamarr Sanders scored a career-high 23 points, junior forward Cameron Moore added 16 and sophomore forward Ovie Soko 10 as UAB blew open a close contest to roll over Troy 78-57 on Monday night. The Blazers improved to 5-1 on the year, with four of those wins coming on the road.
"I thought we got off to a great start tonight," UAB head coach Mike Davis said. "We played relaxed on the defensive end of the floor towards the end of the first half and that allowed for Troy to get back in the game. As the second half went on, I thought Troy got tired and we were able to take advantage of that. In the end, it was another quality road win for us and we look forward to playing on our home floor on Wednesday."
Soko grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds to lead the Blazers. Sanders and Moore pulled down 10 rebounds apiece. It marks the first time since Feb. 8, 2007 that three Blazers earned double-doubles in the same contest.
Senior point guard Aaron Johnson, who entered the game leading the nation in assists per contest, recorded nine points to go along with 10 assists with just one turnover. Johnson, who now has four double-digit assist games this season, moved past former Blazer great Squeaky Johnson into fourth on UAB's list of all-time assist leaders.
The Blazers led by as many as nine, 19-10, with 12:01 remaining in the first half but were outscored 19-12 during the remainder of the half and entered halftime with a narrow 31-29 lead.
Leading 52-49 with 9:55 left in the second, UAB went on a 26-8 run to end the game - shooting 10 of 14 from the floor (71.4 percent) over that stretch.
Bernard Toombs scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Troy (1-5).
UAB shot 18 for 29 from the field (62.1 percent) in the second half, including 8 of 14 from 3-point range (57.1 percent) to outscore the Trojans 47-28 after the break.
UAB returns to action Wednesday, when the Blazers play host to Jacksonville State. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Bartow Arena.
