BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team continued preparations for Saturday's Homecoming game against Marshall by working out for approximately an hour and a half Thursday morning. The Blazers returned to Birmingham-Southern for the second straight day due to wet field conditions at the UAB practice fields.
"It was a good practice," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. "It got off to a little bit of a slow start, but after we got going things picked up. We're still trying to work on Marshall and what they do. We'll practice again tomorrow and see what happens."
The Blazers (3-5, 2-2 Conference USA) are looking to pick up their third straight league victory this weekend. UAB enters Saturday's matchup coming off a 50-49 double-overtime victory at Southern Miss last weekend, while Marshall (2-6, 1-3 C-USA) defeated UTEP, 16-12, in Huntington, W. Va.
"We've had a good week focusing on Marshall," Callaway said. "We know they are a very capable football team and we have to make sure we're ready to go when we take the field Saturday."
Callaway named senior WR Mike Jones as the offensive captain, junior DT Elliott Henigan as the defensive captain and senior RB Justin Brooks as the special teams captain for Saturday's matchup.
Saturday's game, which will be televised by CSS, is set for a 3:06 p.m. CT kickoff at Legion Field. The game will be carried live on the Blazer Sports Network, airing locally on 107.7 WUHT-FM. David Crane, John Whitcomb and Otis Leverette will call the action with the pregame show beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT.
