BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB junior Cameron Moore was selected as the Conference USA men's basketball Player of the Week on Monday, in a vote of media members from around the league. It marks the second consecutive weekly award for the Blazers as Ovie Soko earned the honor for the week of Nov. 30.
Moore, who earns his first career weekly conference award, had the most productive week of any UAB men's basketball player in recent memory, leading the Blazers to a 3-1 record in four contests played during the seven-day stretch.
Despite averaging 34.8 minutes a game, he seemed to get stronger as the week progressed. For the week, the Blazers' 6-10 center averaged 22.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game, while shooting 62.7 percent from the floor and 54.5 percent from beyond the arc. He also recorded two double-doubles on the week and now leads C-USA with five double-doubles this season.
In the final game of the week against a 7-1 Kent State team on Sunday night, Moore was unstoppable, establishing career highs with 28 points and 15 rebounds and connecting on 12-of-18 shots from the floor to lead UAB to a victory.
The San Antonio, Texas native began the week with 16 points and 10 boards in just 26 minutes of action in a victory at Troy on Monday. He followed that performance with a then-career-high 25 points and three blocks in 39 minutes of action in a win over Jacksonville State on Wednesday.
On Friday at SEC foe Georgia, and squaring off against SEC Preseason Player of the Year Trey Thompkins, Moore again proved to be a force to reckon with, leading all scorers with 20 points in a two-point loss.
Moore currently has five double-doubles this season (tied for the most in C-USA), ranks third in the league with 19.7 points per game and is second with 9.4 rebounds a contest. He also ranks fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (.605).
Moore and the Blazers will have two weeks off before taking on Alabama A&M on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. CT.
