Blazers Fall To Middle Tennessee In Four Sets

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The UAB volleyball team lost a 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18) decision Saturday morning to the host Blue Raiders on day two of the Middle Tennessee Invitational.
The Blazers (2-6) will be back on the court Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. to close out the tournament against Arkansas at Alumni Memorial Gym.
In the morning contest, Jordan McDonald paced the UAB attack with 12 kills, while Sam Serley was the most efficient Blazer hitter, connecting for 10 kills and just one error in 16 attempts (.562 attack percentage).
UAB libero Heather Thomas posted a match-high 20 digs, but Middle Tennessee (6-4) betterd the Blazers in most statistical categories. The Blue Raiders hit for a .410 percentage as a team with 67 kills to UAB's 46. MTSU also topped the Blazers in blocks, 12-4, and digs, 61-48.
Ashley Adams and Izabela Kozon led the Middle Tennessee offense with 20 and 18 kills, respectively. Brynne Henderson finished with a team-best 18 digs for the Blue Raiders.
After Middle Tennesee hit for a blistering .529 percentage in the opening frame, UAB rebounded to win a close second set to even the contest. But the Blue Raiders got the offense going again over the next two sets to close the match out in four.
