Danny Volk Named UAB Student-Athlete of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Danny Volk of the Blazer football team has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Volk, a senior tight end from Tonganoxie, Kan., maintains a 3.66 GPA with a major in industrial distribution. He is a three-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a past recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal.
Volk is in his second year with the football team after spending three years with the Blazer baseball program. He has been a key player on special teams for UAB since joining the football team before the 2010 season. He has played in all 10 games this year and made 15 tackles.
Volk is one of 22 UAB seniors who will be honored Thursday at their final home game. He has been named the Blazers' special teams captain for the contest.
UAB and Southern Miss kick off at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday from Legion Field with the game televised by CBS Sports Network.
