Equipment Room Club, Student Manager Award Created

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Equipment Staff is announcing the "Friends of the Equipment Room" Booster Group, which has been created to supplement and create opportunities for current Blazer student equipment managers.
"I am excited to be able to have the resources to reward our hard working student managers," said Brian Coutras, UAB head equipment manager. "I appreciate all of the former student managers who came forward and approached me with this idea."
The Blazers are also launching a new award for its student equipment managers. The Joey Barranco Student Manager of the Year Award will be presented annually at the UAB football banquet. The award is named after Barranco, a student manager at UAB during the 1997 and '98 seasons, who is currently in his 12th year with the NFL's Tennessee Titans.
"I am greatly honored and humbled by those who wanted to name this award after me," Barranco said.
