BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Senior libero Heather Thomas posted a season-high 30 digs in her final match for the UAB volleyball team en route to being named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Thomas, who averaged 7.50 digs per set for the week, also reset the single season digs record in program history. The Madison, Ala., native surpassed her own record set in 2010 when she tallied 607 digs. She concluded the 2011 campaign with 631 digs and a school record 2,131 for her career, fourth-most in C-USA history.
The 30-dig outing by Thomas against Memphis last Wednesday, bested her previous season-high of 28, which she did on four occasions. She collected 20-or-more digs on 16 times on the season and reached double digits in all 32 matches for the year.
The libero has earned the weekly defensive honor on three occasions during her career in Green and Gold, all in 2011.
