Hirini Earns AVSR Global Player Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Redshirt-freshman Kiriana Hirini was named American Volleyball Scouting Report Global Player of the Week on Monday. Hirini is only the second player in Conference USA to earn the honor this season.
Hirini was a force at the net for the Blazers, as UAB defeated the UTEP Miners twice over the weekend by scores of 3-0 and 3-1, to improve to 20-7, 10-5 in league play.
In Saturday's victory, Hirni came off the bench and recorded five total blocks (one solo, four assists) and added three kills in just two sets of game action.
Following her spark off the bench on Saturday, Hirini received a spot in the Sunday's starting lineup and delivered. The Tauranga, New Zealand native posted a career-high 10 blocks (two solo, eight assists) and a personal-best seven digs. In addition, Hirni hit at a .429 clip for the match (3K-0E-7TA).
For the weekend, Hirini averaged 2.50 blocks per set, totaling 15.0 swats in six total sets played.
