BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team continued to work on its game plan for Memphis during Wednesday's practice, as the rivals prepare to compete for the annual "Battle for the Bones" this Saturday at Memphis, Tenn. The Blazers practiced for approximately two hours during the morning session at the UAB Practice Fields, working out in helmets and shells.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway was generally pleased with how his team practiced under gray skies and cooler temperatures.
"It was a typical Wednesday for us," Callaway said. "We have been working on our assignments, tendencies and recognition of what Memphis is going to try and do. I was pleased with what I saw in that area. We were just in helmets today, so we are trying to get a little fresh and healthy. Overall, it was a good day."
One of those areas Callaway was referencing is the task that UAB's offensive line will have in regards to stopping the Tigers defensive front four. Memphis' D-line is anchored by senior Frank Trotter, who leads the line in tackles with 40 and tackles-for-loss with 9.5 for minus 32 yards.
"Our offensive line will certainly face quite a challenge," Callaway said. "Memphis' defensive line is very physical and they have guys that are extremely active. They make a lot of plays and it will probably have a lot to do with winning the football game depending on how we match up in that area."
Saturday's kickoff is slated for 3:15 p.m. CT at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis with the game to be televised regionally by CSS.
The Blazer IMG Sports Network radio broadcast will air locally on WUHT-FM 107.7 in Birmingham. David Crane and John Whitcomb have the call with Sam Miller on the sidelines. The pregame show begins 90 minutes before kickoff.
