HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Cameron Moore had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Jamarr Sanders scored 17 points to lead UAB to a 64-48 victory over Marshall in a Conference USA game Wednesday night.
The win improved the Blazers to 17-6 overall and 7-3 in league play. Additionally, UAB is now 4-1 in its five conference road games.
"I thought we did a good job of taking the crowd out of the game early," UAB head coach Mike Davis said. "Marshall is a very good basketball team and they have been excellent at home this year. We wanted to expose them in the transition game and score the ball in transition and we did a very good job of that."
Moore recorded his 12th double-double of the season, which ranks second in the league.
Aaron Johnson, who ranks third nationally in assists with 7.4 per game, had seven against Marshall and also scored 10 points. The senior point guard needs just three more assists to break the school record of 597, currently held by former great Steve Mitchell.
Moore scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers, during a 17-6 run by the Blazers that gave them a 52-35 lead with 12:35 remaining.
The Thundering Herd (15-9, 3-6) never got closer than 14 points after that. UAB is 12-0 when holding opponents under 60 points on the year.
Marshall's final lead was 8-6 with 17:03 remaining in the first half. Moore tied the game with a jumper that began a 16-2 run, which included a pair of 3s by Dexter Fields.
The Blazers dominated the glass as well, owning a 39-23 advantage on the boards. Furthermore, UAB outrebounded Marshall 14-4 on the offensive glass, which resulted in a nine-point edge in second-chance points (13-4).
Damier Pitts scored 19 points to lead Marshall and Tirrell Baines had 11.
UAB will return home on Saturday when it does battle with the Rice Owls at Bartow Arena. The contest, which will be televised on CSS, is set to tip at 7 p.m. CT.
